A visitor to a culture that is not my own – learning how to make it home.

My husband and I moved to Shanghai, China, about 18 months ago in order to set up a business. We have always been fascinated by China – her people and her history – so we turned a life-long dream into reality and started on our Chinese adventure. We have faced (and continue to face) many challenges – always trying to turn them into opportunities, but not always succeeding! Most of the people that we have met have been incredibly helpful in helping us adjust and acclimatise to our new and unfamiliar surroundings, but there are days when we have to look beyond some of the daily struggles and re-affirm our decision to embark on this project.

We really love this city, its vibrancy and its “life”. And of course we also love Chinese food – its abundance and variety is amazing.

This blog contains “slices” of our life experiences from our time in China.

    Ni hao!
I found your blog through the comment you left on 2Summers post ‘Daytripping around the Cape’. I was just thinking how nostalgic for CT her post made me when I saw what you had said. I am living in Beijing and miss Africa (and CT in particular) like mad, though I do enjoy our life here. I recently posted a review of the only SA restaurant in BJ on my own blog, ‘Jasmine Tea & Jiaozi’. Am enjoying reading your blog, I can really relate to what you are saying! All the best, Jo (aka Herschelian)

谢谢,Jo – there are days when one wonders if anyone else experiences/sees these situations in the same way, so it’s great to hear that others can relate! I took a quick peek at your blog and will definitely be back to spend a longer time reading though your posts – I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. The pages are so bright and colourful too!
